Weldon




Weldon, a post village, in Halifax County, North Carolina, 95 north east of Raleigh, 204 from Washington City. It is situated on the south west side of Roanoke River, at the great falls, 12 miles above Halifax. It contains about 150 inhabitants. Below the falls the river is navigable to Albemarle Sound. There is a canal above this place around the falls, 12 miles long, with a lockage of 100 feet. Above the falls, the Roanoke is made boatable to Stanton River, over 200 miles.
